Exchange Server 2010 - Transport  Rule to Create a NDR for messages that Exceed the received message size for mail box

HI ,

we have a client who uses exchange 2010. And they are very unstructured in their users maximum message sizes.

They had set up 15 MB in their Transport config and use the same value in their receive and send connectors. But they use different values for user mailboxes in their respective mailboxes ranging in between 15 - 4 MB.

This had worked for them for long time and they didn't had much issues with the way they are restricting their mailbox receiving sizes.

But day before yesterday they received a order from a mail(mail form outside the organization) which weigh about  6 MB and unfortunately the user had only 4 MB maximum receive size for his mailbox.

They say that they check in the message tracking it says not deliver to user. But strange thing is the sender did not receive any NDR message.

Now they want to make a transport rule to create NDR record for the sender in those kind of scenarios.

And they want to do it with minimum changes to their current set up.

please help me that how could i achieve this?

I am thinking of using recipients custom attribute as a condition and creating few transport rules but i figured out that was not possible.

please help me to overcome this task.

Thanks in advance

Hi Prasangakk,

Base on my knowledge, creating transport rule is not an good solution, since it is hard to set rule conditions.

The best way is to find out the reason why no NDR message.

You can check the message tracking logs on Exchange server to confirm if the NDR is being generated and sent out.

And contact the sender, to verify if their side's spam blocker might drop inbound NDRs or deliver them to a Junk folder.

In addition, you can do a test between two internal user, and check if there is any NDR message.

hi Niko,

thank you for your reply

yes i am on the process of check why NDR wasn't delivered. But still i didnt get the details of the message or the sender since it's very restrictive.
